The Story of The Brave Little Princess - Part 1 The Accident

Once upon a time there was a little Princess called Alice, it was close to Christmas and that very day Alice had seen Father Christmas along with her two brothers at a very special Christmas party. It was later that evening while playing with her brothers in Mummy and Daddy's bed that disaster struck and Alice tumbled off the bed. On hearing the loud bang and the screaming coming from the little Princess, Daddy rushed to the recuse closely followed by Mummy. Daddy scooped her up of the floor and everyone could clearly see her thigh bone had snapped in two and this is how the story of the Brave Little Princess began.

The next part is a bit of a blur, Daddy comforted Alice while Mummy called an Ambulance, it was a 3 hour wait for an emergency Ambulance. Knowing the wait was so long Mummy spoke to the on call paramedic for advise on how to keep her comfortable while we waited as we couldn't risk moving her again to get her into the car. The paramedic upgraded the call to the highest priority so unless there was someone not breathing Alice would get the next available Ambulance.

The wait seemed like for ever but soon the Ambulance arrived with two paramedics closely followed by another paramedic in a car. Alice was so brave. In order to move her to the Ambulance she was given morphine and gas and air. To check the painkillers were all working the paramedic sang baby shark with Alice until she was too spaced out to do the actions.

Once she was carried to the Ambulance the paramedics called the hospital to let them know we were on our way. On arrival at the hospital there was a team waiting to greet Alice along with Daddy who had travelled there in the car. Within 5 minutes of arriving an x ray had been done which confirmed that Alice , the Brave Little Princess had broken her femur in two.

The on call orthopaedic consultant came to see us all to work out the best course of treatment. It was decided that skin traction would be the kindest was to treat her break and he came back to fit the strings and bandages.

Around 5 am Alice was transferred to the children's ward. Her bed was to be her home for the next week. With Daddy staying overnight and Mummy spending the day there.
